Geospatial Data Analyst

Job Category: Geospatial Data Analyst
Job Type: Part Time
Job Location: Remote

About Us:

We are an innovative startup developing a satellite imagery analysis platform that provides actionable insights to the agriculture, commodity trading, and insurance sectors. By utilizing real-time satellite data and advanced machine learning models, our platform empowers businesses with crop health monitoring, yield forecasting, and risk assessment tools.

We are seeking a skilled Geospatial Data Analyst to manage and analyze satellite imagery and geospatial datasets. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with large-scale geospatial data and will play a key role in deriving meaningful insights from satellite imagery for real-world applications.

Responsibilities:

As a Geospatial Data Analyst, you will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and visualizing satellite imagery and geospatial datasets to support our platform’s predictive models. Your main tasks include:

  • Analyze and process satellite imagery from multiple sources (e.g., Sentinel-2, Landsat, and commercial providers) for insights related to crop health, land use, and yield predictions.
  • Apply remote sensing techniques to extract meaningful information such as vegetation indices (e.g., NDVI, EVI) and soil moisture data.
  • Develop and manage geospatial databases and ensure data is efficiently stored, processed, and made available for the platform’s machine learning models.
  • Use GIS tools and platforms (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, PostGIS) to perform spatial analysis and create visualizations for decision-making and reporting.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to ensure satellite imagery is pre-processed, cleaned, and transformed for use in predictive models.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) on geospatial data to discover trends, anomalies, and patterns in crop health and yield data.
  • Provide support for geospatial data integration into the platform’s frontend, working closely with the software development team to deliver intuitive visualizations and insights to users.
  • Ensure geospatial data adheres to quality standards and maintain comprehensive metadata and documentation for internal use.
  • Keep up-to-date with advancements in remote sensing technologies and geospatial analysis and recommend new techniques to improve the platform’s accuracy and performance.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in geospatial data analysis, preferably with a focus on satellite imagery and remote sensing.
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar tools for spatial data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience working with multispectral satellite data (e.g., Sentinel-2, Landsat) and extracting key metrics such as NDVI, EVI, and LAI.
  • Familiarity with geospatial databases and tools like PostGIS and Geoserver for managing and querying large-scale spatial data.
  • Knowledge of remote sensing techniques and geospatial algorithms for land use, vegetation analysis, and environmental monitoring.
  • Programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages for geospatial data processing and analysis, with experience using libraries such as GDAL, Rasterio, Geopandas, or Fiona.
  • Strong ability to visualize geospatial data, create insightful maps, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) for storing and processing large geospatial datasets.
  • Bonus:
    • Experience with machine learning models applied to geospatial data.
    • Familiarity with satellite tasking and acquiring high-resolution imagery from commercial providers.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary with flexible, remote working opportunities.
  • Opportunity to work on a mission-driven project that leverages satellite imagery and geospatial data to impact global agriculture, commodities, and insurance markets.
  • Collaborate with a diverse and experienced team of developers, data scientists, and GIS specialists.
  • Access to cutting-edge satellite data and technologies for real-world applications.
  • Opportunities for professional growth in a rapidly expanding startup.

How to Apply:

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter, and examples of previous work or projects where you’ve applied geospatial analysis to real-world problems. We welcome links to portfolios or GitHub repositories showcasing your geospatial expertise.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage applications from all backgrounds. Join us and be part of an exciting venture that is transforming satellite imagery and geospatial data into actionable insights for industries worldwide!
