About Us:
We are an innovative startup building a cutting-edge satellite imagery analysis platform aimed at revolutionizing the agriculture, commodity trading, and insurance sectors. Our platform provides real-time insights into crop health, yield forecasting, and risk assessment by integrating satellite imagery with advanced data analytics.
To enhance the accuracy and relevance of our predictions, we are seeking an experienced Agriculture Expert / Agronomist to bring deep agricultural knowledge to our platform, ensuring that our models align with real-world farming practices and environmental factors.
Responsibilities:
As an Agriculture Expert / Agronomist, you will work closely with our data scientists, GIS specialists, and software engineers to ensure that our satellite-based analysis accurately reflects crop health, yield outcomes, and environmental conditions. Your key responsibilities include:
- Provide expert input on agricultural practices, crop physiology, and yield factors to enhance the platform’s predictive models for different crops and regions.
- Collaborate with data scientists to define and validate the agronomic features used in machine learning models, ensuring that satellite imagery analysis reflects the real-world factors influencing crop performance.
- Advise on the use of multispectral satellite data (e.g., NDVI, EVI) to monitor and assess vegetation health, water stress, soil conditions, and pest/disease risks.
- Work with the product team to develop crop-specific insights that help farmers, insurers, and commodity traders make informed decisions based on satellite data.
- Contribute to the design of yield forecasting models by providing insight into the key agronomic variables that influence crop yields, such as weather patterns, soil fertility, and farming techniques.
- Assist in the validation of crop yield models by comparing satellite-based predictions with on-the-ground data and historical crop performance data.
- Advise on the localization of the platform for different geographical regions, adjusting models for regional differences in climate, soil types, and farming practices.
- Provide agronomic expertise to help the platform address sustainability, precision agriculture, and climate resilience in farming.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in agronomy, agricultural science, or a related field, with a strong understanding of crop growth, yield factors, and sustainable farming practices.
- Deep knowledge of key crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and other agricultural commodities, including factors affecting their health and yield.
- Experience working with remote sensing technologies (e.g., satellite imagery, drones) to monitor and analyze crop health and land conditions.
- Familiarity with vegetation indices such as NDVI, EVI, and other satellite-derived indicators used in agriculture.
- Strong understanding of soil health, water management, and the impact of climate conditions on crop performance.
- Ability to interpret geospatial data and provide recommendations on improving the accuracy of yield models and crop health assessments.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and GIS experts, to integrate agronomic insights into a data-driven platform.
- Bonus:
- Previous experience with precision agriculture technologies or ag-tech platforms.
- Understanding of sustainable farming practices and the integration of climate resilience strategies in agriculture.
- Experience working with insurance companies on agricultural risk assessment or crop insurance models.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary with the flexibility of remote working.
- Be part of a mission-driven project that leverages satellite imagery and agronomic expertise to help farmers, commodity traders, and insurers make data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with a global team of experts in data science, software development, and GIS to deliver impactful insights for agriculture.
- Opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic and rapidly scaling startup.
- Work at the intersection of agriculture, technology, and sustainability, helping to address key challenges in global food production.
How to Apply:
To apply, please submit your resume, cover letter, and any relevant projects or case studies where you have applied your agronomy expertise in a technological or data-driven context. We welcome links to publications, portfolios, or previous work in crop modeling, yield forecasting, or precision agriculture.
